A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE CONCEPTS AND USE OF INTRAUTERINE DEVICE AND ITS COMPLICATIONS IN THE ACADEMY TEACHING CHARITY HOSPITAL

OBJECTIVES:TO DETERMINE ACCEPTANCE AND COMPLICATIONS OF INTRAUTERINE DEVICE AMONG WOMEN IN THEIR REPRODUTIVE AGE . SPECIFIC: TO ASSESS FACTORS AFFECTING ACCEPTANCE AND REFUSAL OF INTRAUTERINE DEVICE ,PERCENTAGE USE OF THE DEVICE AND COMMON COMPLICATIONS DEVELOPED. 

METHODOLOGY:Subjects were multiparous females with no fertility problems. Nulliparous women were excluded. Data was collected using questionnaires and was analyzed by SPSS.

Study AreaKHARTOUM STATE 

RESULTS:35% had no idea about intrauterine devices of whom 72% were illiterate.85% didn’t use contraception because of perceived health risk, regard it as unacceptable or don’t know which method to use.39% didn’t use them because of fear of side effects. 86% used intrauterine devices because they were convenient while 14% used them as an alternative.
